All of my favorites are talking about normalizing repeat outfits and I’m pumped. To quote Lizzo, it’s about damn time.
I’m also loving this substack post - Why are we buying clothes for lives we don’t have anymore? Anna Newton talks about the disconnect we have between what we are actually doing with our lives vs what we think we are doing. And how to stop spending on “stuff” that just don’t work for our day to day anymore. She takes the time to breakdown (color-coded I might add) her outfits for an entire month and the results are pretty eye opening. It’s inspiring me to keep a similar log for the short month of Feb.
Which leads me to the reason behind this post - repeating outfits and how this can set a foundation for building out simplified, smart, and creative looks.
And of course the jeans that set this whole thought into motion….. Full disclosure - they are from Zara. And before you say it - I know. I’ve been steering away from fast fashion as much as I possibly can. It’s important to shop responsibly but these jeans are going to be the exception. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reached for these over the last two weeks. They are so easy and good.
Let’s talk about why….
-mid-rise
-slight crop, straight leg
-perfect wash
-super comfy
-beyond super affordable
-looks great with a many different shoe styles - from cons to pointy flats
I also may have just purchased them in grey. Oops.
Below are some shots of how I’ve been sporting them with styles that have been in my closet for years! #shopyourcloset!
Zara Jeans // Vince Bomber (secondhand on poshmark, check posh) // Onitsuka Tigre Sneakers (old, similar here) // Clare V. Ciao crewneck sweatshirt (a splurge, but been on repeat, so cost per wear is low) // Aire Sunnies (super affordable but always sold out, put yourself on the waitlist - worth it!)
Zara Jeans // Similar Cons (I've had mine forever and they are wool) // Striped Button Down - similar here
Yes, I am wearing the striped shirt buttoned all the way up. I used to love this look in the mid-2000’s, going to work to bring it back. Will you join me?
Madewell wool plaid baseball cap (old, similar Here ) // Zara Jeans // Similar Cons (I've had mine forever and they are wool) // Quince cashmere sweater // J. Crew Peacoat (old, similar Here)
It’s easy to get sucked into the vortex of buying new clothes instead of looking at what exists in our closet and doing the work to put things together in a meaningful, current way. But we can do hard things, right? Especially if the result makes your life easier!
And before you go buy the Zara jeans I have been wearing on repeat- take a look in your wardrobe - do you have something similar that will achieve the same style? I bet you do…..
xx
